there's mmre bad news on the eccnomy front as the number f people living below he poverty line hits a record high. stephanie ilum has the numbers. a new census reportss3 highlights anothhr symppom of the economic down turn. the number of americans living in poverty hit a record high -early 44 million americcns live below the poverty line, that is mooe than 14% of the population. ú%e poverty thresholl for a family of 4 is a yearly economic underr$1,000..3 $21,000 and for an individual is 11,000. the poverty rose more than expected. however analyst system that the ppverty rate will continue to climb reaching 16% over the next decade. that works out to an additional $10 million innneed. the poorest area in the country is the south whileethe nnrtheast has the lowest poverty levels. mississippi has the lowest median in the countryy the aavrage household brought in less than 36 thousands a year.
